The All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), that joining the APC will not shield him from ongoing corruption investigations. The party also demanded a public apology from Kwankwaso to President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for past derogatory comments.
Abdullahi Abbas, the APC Chairman in Kano, stated that while Kwankwaso's potential defection is welcome, the APC will not tolerate "cult-like associations" within its ranks. He suggested that Kwankwaso's desperation to join the APC stems from his damaged political standing and a desire to evade anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC and IPCC.
Abbas emphasized that joining the APC is not a "panacea for escaping from their past sins." He assured that the party has directed ward chapters to open registers for new members, regardless of their status, in accordance with the party's constitution.
