Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu has strengthened the state's partnerships with international institutions by paying scholarship and visa renewal fees for Sokoto students studying in India, Sudan, and other countries. The announcement was made by Alhaji Isa Sadiq, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, during a news conference.
Governor Aliyu's administration has prioritized support for students through scholarships and welfare programs. The governor approved funds for tuition fees for 34 medical students at Sudan International University, as well as registration fees for students at Usmanu Danfodio University. Special support was also extended to Sokoto State students relocated from Ukraine to Baze University in Abuja, covering their tuition, accommodation, and feeding costs.
The Aliyu administration has also funded JAMB/UMTE fees for students and convocation ceremonies at key institutions, demonstrating commitment to student success. Furthermore, the government supported capacity building for academic staff through ICT training programs across tertiary institutions in Sokoto State.
Funds were disbursed to provide direct support for tertiary institutions and to verify and clear outstanding liabilities across local and international institutions. According to Sadiq, these efforts demonstrate the governor's dedication to improving the educational landscape in Sokoto State and creating a high-quality education system that prepares students for local and global opportunities.
The governor's administration has made progress in healthcare, focusing on maternal and child disease control, and workforce expansion. Free medical care is provided to pregnant women and children, reducing maternal and child mortality rates. Around 800 nurses and midwives have been recruited to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
