Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved the establishment of a 10-megawatt (MW) Independent Power Project (IPP) at Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu. The project aims to address persistent electricity challenges on the university campus and provide sustainable power to the surrounding Uturu community.
Governor Otti announced the approval during a public event in Isuikwuato, highlighting the power project as a key part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate ABSU and transform the institution. He stated that the initiative is designed not only to benefit the university but also to ensure constant power supply for the entire Uturu area.
The project aligns with the recently signed Abia State Electricity Law, which empowers the state to independently regulate and manage its electricity sector, marking a significant step toward energy self-sufficiency for Abia State.
