The Labour Party (LP) has officially disowned recent “undemocratic” remarks made by its vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, distancing itself from his statements amid rising internal tensions. The party also expressed serious concern over what it described as direct threats from Abia State Governor Alex Otti, warning that such actions undermine party unity and democratic principles.
In response to the internal issues, the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC) has set up a disciplinary committee to address the situation and maintain party discipline, signaling a firm stance against any conduct that threatens cohesion.
Acting National Chairperson Senator Nenadi Usman emphasized the party’s focus on rebuilding and preparing for the 2027 elections, urging members to avoid distractions and work towards unity. She praised the Supreme Court’s resolution of the party’s leadership crisis and reaffirmed commitment to internal democracy and transparent governance.
The party’s leadership reiterated support for its presidential candidate Peter Obi and running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed, despite the recent controversies, calling on members to remain steadfast and focused on the party’s mission to build a “New Nigeria”.
This development highlights ongoing challenges within the Labour Party as it navigates internal disagreements while preparing for future political contests.
