Abdulsamad Rabiu, Nigeria’s third-richest man and founder of BUA Group, has signed major deals to construct a state-of-the-art palm oil refinery and a noodle production facility, marking a significant boost to Nigeria’s agro-processing and manufacturing sectors.
The new palm oil refinery, developed in partnership with Swedish firm Alfa Laval, will have a processing capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes per day. This facility is expected to enhance Nigeria’s local palm oil refining capabilities, reduce dependency on imports, and create numerous jobs along the agricultural value chain.
The refinery will produce refined, high-quality edible palm oil for both domestic consumption and export, supporting Nigeria’s goal of industrial self-sufficiency and sustainable agricultural practices.
In addition, BUA Group has signed agreements with Chinese firms Qingdao ZhengYa Technology and Shanghai Poemy Machinery to build 10 production lines dedicated to fried instant noodles. This expansion into food processing aims to boost food security, create employment, and improve Nigeria’s export competitiveness.
To support these operations, BUA Group will also construct a 20MW gas-fired power plant through a deal with India-based Green Power International, ensuring energy independence from Nigeria’s unreliable national grid.
These projects come as part of BUA Group’s broader industrial expansion, which recently included launching a plaster of Paris plant and a polypropylene packaging facility, further solidifying the conglomerate’s role in Nigeria’s manufacturing landscape.
Overall, Abdulsamad Rabiu’s investments in palm oil refining and noodle production are expected to stimulate economic growth, reduce import reliance, and generate jobs, contributing positively to Nigeria’s economy.
