Outrage as Soludo Demolishes Innoson Head Office in Anambra

The Anambra State Government has partially demolished the head office of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) in Nnewi, sparking widespread outrage. The demolition, which occurred on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, affected the office perimeter fence, some offices, a staircase, and the company’s showroom.

According to Mr. Cornel Osigwe, Head of Corporate Communications at Innoson Group, there was no prior notification before the demolition. Osigwe stated that staff members were working when the demolition began, trapping some inside the building. Over 20 vehicles were also trapped on the premises. He also noted that while there had been an announcement about demolitions in the area with a one-week relocation notice, Innoson was unaware that its building was marked.

While Osigwe expressed doubt that the state government would intentionally target Innoson, he questioned whether individuals handling the demolition harbored personal vendettas against the company, especially since other marked buildings nearby were spared.

However, Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, defended the action, stating that the IVM Head Office was among buildings marked for demolition to facilitate road construction aimed at easing traffic congestion. Okoma claimed that all affected buildings were marked and residents were informed.

The commissioner emphasized Governor Charles Soludo's support for Innoson, highlighting that he is the only governor nationwide using made-in-Nigeria vehicles. He dismissed suggestions of a targeted attack, asserting that the road project affects various properties, including a Catholic Church.
