Presidency Defends Tinubu's Two Weeks plus Overseas Stay Amid Insecurity Concerns

Amid rising insecurity and criticism from opposition figures, the Presidency has defended Bola Tinubu's continued stay abroad, asserting that he remains fully engaged in national governance. According to Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu is in constant communication with key government officials and has issued directives to security chiefs to address emerging threats. The President is expected to return after the Easter holidays.

This comes as opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have called for Tinubu's immediate return due to escalating violence, particularly in Benue and Plateau states.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party's Peter Obi has commended the Northern Traditional Rulers for condemning the insecurity, echoing their call that "Enough is Enough." Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged for a new security strategy in Northern Nigeria, emphasizing the need to address insecurity, empower women, and prioritize girl-child education.

Despite the surge in terrorist attacks, Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa has assured Nigerians that the military remains committed to combating terrorism, stating that recent events will not deter their efforts. He affirmed that Tinubu is dedicated to providing the military with the necessary resources to fight against terrorists and other enemies of the country.
