To: The National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
From: Hon. Apollos Godspower
LGA Chairman, Owerri Municipal
Chairman of Chairmen, Owerri Zone
We, the Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen of Owerri Zone, are compelled to address a matter of pressing concern regarding the current state of affairs within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). It has come to our attention that the authority of the National Chairmanship of our party is being undermined by the activities of the PDP Governors' Forum, which is not recognized or enshrined within the PDP Constitution.
While the Governors' Forum serves as a platform for discussion and collaboration, it is crucial to clarify that it lacks the official capacity to act as the leadership of the party. We respectfully urge the National Chairman of the PDP to reaffirm his leadership role and not allow the Governors' Forum to dictate the party's direction or interfere in its operational dynamics. The integrity and constitutionality of the party must prevail over informal assemblies that seek to exert undue influence.
Furthermore, we would like to highlight our concerns regarding the distractions faced by Senator Samuel Anyanwu Nnaemeka, the National Secretary of the PDP. It is imperative that the governors refrain from obstructing his duties and responsibilities. Senator Anyanwu plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity and functionality of our party, and we stand firmly behind him in this endeavor.
Our observations suggest a concerning trend among certain PDP governors engaging in negotiations with President Tinubu, with potential implications that could jeopardize the party's future. The insinuations of transactional politics trading our party's integrity for personal gains are alarming, and as the leadership of Owerri Zone, we refuse to accept this narrative. We are not naive; such maneuvers only serve to undermine the essence of our party and could lead to a scenario where our collective effort is deemed inconsequential, or worse, where the PDP's allegiance is questioned.
In light of these events, we call upon the National Chairman to assert his authority and take decisive action to safeguard the PDP from any detrimental influences that may arise from the actions of the Governors' Forum. It is our collective responsibility to ensure the party remains unwaveringly committed to its foundational values, thus preventing any possibility of being seen as a pawn in the political gamesmanship that is all too common in today’s political landscape.
We, the Chairmen of Owerri Zone, stand resolutely beside our son, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the PDP. Together, we shall work towards the unity, strength, and progress of our party.
Yours sincerely,
Hon. Apollos Godspower
