Valentine Ozigbo, an aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary for Anambra State, has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Awka challenging the legitimacy of the APC primary held on April 5, 2025.
The suit names the APC, Nicholas Ukachukwu (the declared winner), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as defendants. Ozigbo seeks to nullify Ukachukwu’s nomination and compel the party to recognize him as the rightful candidate.
Ozigbo described the primary as a “well-scripted illusion,” alleging that a contrived delegate list was used, real APC members were locked out, and chaos reigned during the exercise. He claims the process violated party rules and that Ukachukwu failed to meet eligibility criteria under the APC constitution.
The primary results showed Ukachukwu winning with 1,455 votes, while Ozigbo scored 67 votes. Other aspirants scored significantly lower.
Ozigbo’s legal team, led by senior advocates Umeh Kalu and B.C. Igwilo, submitted extensive documentation including the party’s constitution, internal communications, and delegate registers to support the case.
The lawsuit comes amid internal turmoil within Anambra APC, including resignations and defections following the disputed primary.
The Federal High Court in Awka has yet to set a hearing date for the case.
