Vatican Postpones Sainthood Process for "God's Influencer" Carlo Acutis Following Pope's Death

Vatican City – The Vatican has announced the postponement of the canonization process for Blessed Carlo Acutis, the British-born Italian teenager known as "God's Influencer" for his computer skills and evangelistic use of the internet. The decision follows the death of Pope Francis, as the Church enters a period of mourning and transition.

The canonization of Acutis, who died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15, had been eagerly anticipated after Pope Francis attributed a second miracle to him in May 2024, paving the way for sainthood. Acutis gained global recognition for documenting Eucharistic miracles online and using his tech skills to spread the Catholic faith, earning him the moniker "God's Influencer."

Traditionally, major decisions such as canonizations are deferred during the "sede vacante," the period when the Holy See is vacant. This allows the new pope to review all pending matters and set his own priorities for the Church.

While the Vatican has not announced a new date for the canonization ceremony, it is expected to be rescheduled once the new pope is elected and the period of mourning concludes.

The postponement comes as a disappointment to many Catholics who view Acutis as a modern-day saint and a role model for young people. However, Vatican officials have assured that the process remains on track, and the Church's recognition of Acutis' holiness is not in question.

Carlo Acutis was beatified in 2020, and his story continues to inspire young Catholics worldwide to use technology for good and to deepen their faith. The rescheduling of his canonization will be a significant event for the Church, celebrating a life dedicated to faith, technology, and evangelization.
